The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets will head out to face off against the Clover Blue Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Fort Mill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Fort Mill will head out to face Clover after giving up their first home loss of the season on Friday. Fort Mill fell just short of Catawba Ridge by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Yellow Jackets have suffered since April 24, 2024.
Fort Mill got a good showing from John Risk, who tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest hits Risk has allowed since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Cooper Diehl made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Blankinship, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Clover entered their tilt with Rock Hill on Friday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Bearcats. While the Blue Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
The team relied heavily on Aiden Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Dane Craig was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
Fort Mill suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 4-2. As for Clover, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fort Mill has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Clover struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fort Mill came out on top in a nail-biter against Clover when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Does Fort Mill have another victory up their sleeve, or will Clover turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
