Liberty has gone 8-2 against Griggsville-Perry recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Tornadoes at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Griggsville-Perry will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Liberty extended their winning streak to five on Monday. The Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand Pleasant Hill a 15-0 shutout. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Chandler John made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Anna Dietrich was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Claire Obert was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Meanwhile, Griggsville-Perry hadn't done well against Routt Catholic recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Tornadoes came out on top against the Rockets by a score of 10-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). Considering the Tornadoes' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Like Liberty, Griggsville-Perry also got a great game from a two-way player: Ashtyn Wainman. On the mound, Wainman tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Emma Kurfman pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At bat, Wainman went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Kurfman went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Claire Bennett, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellorie Lambeth, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Griggsville-Perry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Griggsville-Perry's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 2-11. As for Liberty, their record now sits at 16-2.
Griggsville-Perry's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Liberty has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Griggsville-Perry, though, as they've been averaging 9.6 hits. Given Liberty's sizable advantage in that area, the Tornadoes will need to find a way to close that gap.
Liberty got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against Griggsville-Perry by a conclusive 14-7 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Tornadoes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
