Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Von Steuben

It was a proper cat-fight when Von Steuben faced off against Chicago Academy on Monday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 17-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won nine games by 13 runs or more so far this season.

Celia Quintana made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with six stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Sophia Hernandez was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Cindy Gutierrez, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Von Steuben kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chicago Academy didn't got any.

The win (which was Von Steuben's fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Chicago Academy, they dropped their record down to 1-11-1 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Von Steuben has already played their next matchup, an 11-4 loss against Northside on the 5th. Hopefully Chicago Academy paid attention to the Panthers' contest: the next time they hit the field , they'll take on the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
