Notre Dame Catholic is on a seven-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Masuk is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Notre Dame Catholic Lancers will take on the Masuk Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Notre Dame Catholic humbled Joel Barlow with a 49-21 victory.
Antwan Davis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 322 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 14.0 yards per carry. Davis is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Bryson Razor, who rushed for 28 yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Joel Barlow to a paltry 218 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Notre Dame Catholic's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Ariel Hanley and Justin Reid who racked up four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Masuk made easy work of Pomperaug on Friday and carried off a 43-22 victory.
Jason Champagne was his usual excellent self, rushing for 213 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 carries. Champagne was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of aaron champagne, who threw for 173 yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Notre Dame Catholic to 6-0 and Masuk to 5-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Notre Dame Catholic has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 381.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Masuk struggles in that department as they've been averaging 175.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Notre Dame Catholic was taken down by Masuk 38-0 in their previous matchup back in September of 2022. Will Notre Dame Catholic have more luck at home instead of on the road?
