Pioneer recap October 1, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in Pioneer this week, Pottsgrove beat Spring-Ford 14-7. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Falcons.
Methacton was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in the league. The Warriors beat Upper Perkiomen 56-20 earlier in the week.
The Rams' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brandon Leacraft threw for 108 yards and Danny Matthews had 71 yards receiving. On the ground Jake Leahy chipped in 96 yards. Gary Hopkins helped Spring-Ford's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 10 yards.
Leahy was a passing and rushing force as Spring-Ford lost to Pottsgrove. Leahy's key target this week was Matthews, who caught 4 passes for 71 yards.
Leahy was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 96 yards as Chad Brubaker's team lost to Rick Pennypacker's team. Teammate Matt Daywalt added to the ground attack by rushing for 12 yards.
The Rams' Leacraft and Hopkins have formed a dream team this season, leading Pioneer in both passing and receiving yards. Leacraft has thrown for 239 yards this season, while Hopkins, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 9 catches for 178 yards. Marquis Barefield from the Falcons leads the league in rushing with 543 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Perkiomen Valley takes on Phoenixville. At the moment, the Vikings are in second, while the Phantoms are in fourth.
The Indians lost to Methacton 56-20 last week, the largest margin of any game.
