Norwell is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while South Adams is on an 11-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Knights will host the Starfires at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Norwell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Norwell came up short against Jay County and fell 11-8. The loss was the Knights' first of the season.
Leah Werling and Kaydance Clark stepped up to the plate in a big way. Werling went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Clark got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run. Those RBI were Werling's first of the season. Kara Brown was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Adams). They were the clear victors by a 20-3 margin over New Haven on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Starfires in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won eight in a row.
Shelby Weigel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Weigel was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (three).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mackenzie Neuenschwander, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Reagan Bollenbacher, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
South Adams always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Haven only posted an OBP of .400.
Having lost for the first time this season, Norwell fell to 3-1. As for South Adams, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Norwell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .400. However, it's not like South Adams struggles in that department as they've averaged .459. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Norwell suffered a grim 17-10 defeat to South Adams in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
