Juliana Brunner and Kaitlyn Ashby made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Brunner tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Ashby pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Brunner has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Brunner went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Ashby went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Brunner a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kacey Hurley was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Anna Gray was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Dos Pueblos was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Marcos only posted a batting average of .250.
Meanwhile, Oxnard waltzed into their match on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They walked away with a 9-4 win over the Cougars.
Destinee Herrera made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Herrera was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, Oxnard got a big performance out of Alexis Haros, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Rachel Godoy, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Dos Pueblos is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Oxnard, they pushed their record up to 14-4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Dos Pueblos hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Oxnard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Dos Pueblos was able to grind out a solid victory over Oxnard in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 5-1. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Yellowjackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
