Basketball Recap: Phoenix Day School for the Deaf Takes a Loss

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf played a tough game on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Maryvale Prep Matador and fell 61-34. The Roadrunners were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-13.

Despite the loss, Phoenix Day School for the Deaf had strong showings from Donovan Etheridge, who went 7 of 11 en route to 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists, and David Garcia, who posted seven points along with five boards and three steals. That's the most points Etheridge has posted since back in December of 2023.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Phoenix Day School for the Deaf was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. As for Maryvale Prep, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-11.

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Desert Heights Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Maryvale Prep, they will take on Sequoia Pathway Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
