The Highland Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 69-45 defeat at the hands of Canton. While losing is never fun, Highland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 450th, while Canton is ranked 160th).
Canton was led to victory by Zach Sparrow and Preston Brewer. Sparrow scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Brewer dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Sparrow scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Oliver, who scored nine points.
Highland has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Canton, they pushed their record up to 12-5 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland will take on Centralia at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Canton, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Missouri Military Academy at 12:00 p.m. Missouri Military Academy has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 17.
