Pomona hasn't had much luck against Golden recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Panthers will square off against the Demons at 1:00 p.m. The last three games Pomona has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
It was a proper cat-fight when Pomona challenged D'Evelyn on Thursday. The Panthers fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 5-4.
Pomona got a good showing from Brayden Richards, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, Richards gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Damani Chavez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Gage Douglas was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Golden entered their tilt with Littleton on Thursday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. Considering the Demons have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Brody McBroom was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Austin Maleki looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, Golden got a massive performance out of Dylan Paulson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Paulson a new career-high. Anthony Boucher also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Golden was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .531. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Golden's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Pomona, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.
Pomona suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Golden when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
