The Wickliffe Blue Devils will head out on the road to take on the West Geauga Wolverines at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wickliffe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Wickliffe is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 22 runs last Wednesday, they were much more limited against Madison on Friday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Streaks. The match marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Leigha Blazetic spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Wickliffe saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddie Prosuch, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, West Geauga had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 13-4 win.
West Geauga also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Lely Percassi gave up only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ava Borz, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. Malory Lear also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 6-9. As for Wickliffe, they moved to 5-3 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
West Geauga's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Wickliffe has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for West Geauga, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Wickliffe keep running through batters, or will the Wolverines buck the trend?
Wickliffe came out on top in a nail-biter against West Geauga in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
