The Colorado Wolves will square off against the Floydada Whirlwinds on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Colorado is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over Anson. The victory continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won five in a row.
Mia Obenhaus was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over nine innings while giving up seven earned runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Taelynn Oden and Alexis Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Oden went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Martinez went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Oden a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aj Goodney, who went 2-for-6 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Colorado kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Floydada had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They blew past the Antelopes 10-3.
Bella Perez was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Colorado's record is now 24-7-1. As for Floydada, their record now sits at 29-6.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Colorado hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .386. However, it's not like Floydada struggles in that department as they've averaged .385. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Colorado's way against Floydada when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Colorado made off with a 9-0 win. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Whirlwinds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
