The Catawba Ridge Copperheads's 20-5 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were outmatched by Marvin Ridge at home and fell 73-42. While losing is never fun, Catawba Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 173rd in South Carolina, while Marvin Ridge is ranked 36th in North Carolina).
Despite the defeat, Catawba Ridge saw an underclassman step up: Taylor Reilly scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. Reilly is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooks Dority, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Catawba Ridge and nudges their season record down to 2-12. As for Marvin Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Catawba Ridge and South Point will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully South Point focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Saturday. Marvin Ridge and Nation Ford will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Nation Ford will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
