Video: Pitcher makes insane catch
Austin Trace of Canal Winchester with the incredible catch in OhioFacing Salem Hills has been a chore for every opponent this season.
Looking at the bullpen for the Skyhawks, it's easy to see why the team
creates a multitude of problems for offenses.
Three of 15
pitchers leading the state in win/loss record at this point in the 2016
season play for Salem Hills. It's one reason why the Skyhawks (18-1)
have emerged as a real threat to claim a Class 4A title this season.
Kaden
Stewart, a Salem Hills junior, leads the state with a 7-0 record.
Stewart has met few batters who can match him when he's on the mound. He
has struck out 40 batters and has posted a 0.59 earned run average in
10 appearances this season.
Seniors Tanner Hamblin and Riley
Pierce are equally formidable. Both pitchers are 4-0 so far this season.
Hamblin has 31 strikeouts and a 1.75 ERA in eight appearances. Pierce
has notched 29 strikeouts and a 2.00 ERA in seven appearances – while
chipping in a pair of saves.
The Skyhawks trio isn't the only
set of teammates who are tearing it up from the mound for their schools.
Northridge and South Sevier are also benefiting from deep bullpens.
Josh
Brown and Jacob Porter are both 5-0 in six appearances apiece for
Northridge this spring. Brown has racked up 29 strikeouts and boasts a
1.29 ERA. Porter has struck out 44 batters and has a 2.19 ERA. Their
efforts have helped the Knights (13-4) rise to the top in Region 1 and
emerge as a Class 5A title contender.
Masen Roberts and Dyson
Heath have posted identical 5-1 records for the Rams in eight
appearances apiece. Heath has 39 strikeouts and a 1.86 ERA while Roberts
has 34 strikeouts and a 1.89 ERA. They have helped South Sevier (15-2)
carve out the best record in Class 2A up to this point in the season.
