Basketball Game Preview: Edmund Burke Academy Spartans vs. Augusta Prep Day Cavaliers

Edmund Burke Academy is 1-9 against Augusta Prep Day since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Edmund Burke Academy Spartans will venture away from home to square off against the Augusta Prep Day Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Thursday, Edmund Burke Academy beat Westminster Christian Academy 57-50. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Edmund Burke Academy can attribute much of their success to Blake Reddick, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards, and Mark Wasden, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. Those 12 rebounds gave Wasden a new career-high. Davis Brown was another key player, putting up six points.

Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Augusta Prep Day's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took an 84-66 bruising from Gatewood. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (63), the Cavaliers still had to take the loss.

Edmund Burke Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Augusta Prep Day, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-4.

Edmund Burke Academy might still be hurting after the 58-36 loss they got from Augusta Prep Day in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Edmund Burke Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
