The Maritime Academy Charter Seadogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight defeat. Their rough 66-40 defeat to Central might stick with them for a while. Maritime Academy Charter was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lancers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Maritime Academy Charter had strong showings from Jadin Aviles, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds, and Jaseer Mann, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Andy Figueroa, who scored four points along with two steals.
Central found their leader in underclassman Yamir Knight-parker, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Knight-parker hasn't dropped below 16 points for six straight games. Malachi Brown was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Maritime Academy Charter's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Central, their win ended a eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maritime Academy Charter will face off against the Eagles at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. George Washington presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Seadogs in Pennsylvania (the Eagles are ranked 307th, while the Seadogs are ranked 653rd). As for Central, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Railsplitters at 3:15 p.m. on January 26th.
