The Montgomery County Indians will challenge the Bryan Station Defenders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Montgomery County 3, Bryan Station 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Montgomery County is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: Harrison County, who was ranked 11th at the time (Montgomery County was ranked 22nd). The Indians came up short against the Thorobreds/Fillies on Friday, falling 8-1. The Indians haven't had much luck with the Thorobreds/Fillies recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Lilliana Hill was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run.
Meanwhile, while Bryan Station put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Estill County. The Defenders were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Engineers. The Defenders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
Karsyn Rockvoan made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 12 strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tiahna Bowman, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Adrienn Arcure, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Bryan Station always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Estill County only posted an OBP of .208.
Bryan Station is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Montgomery County, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Montgomery County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bryan Station struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Montgomery County beat Bryan Station 6-3 in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Defenders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
