The third road game was the charm for the Andrews Yellowjackets, as they earned their first road win of the season. They rang in the new year with a 59-51 victory over Waccamaw on Friday. That's another feather in the cap for Andrews, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Andrews was led to victory by Sharod Sumpter and Vincent Rhue. Sumpter scored 16 points along with six rebounds, while Rhue scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Sumpter has scored at least 25% of Andrews' points. SerQuan Middleton was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
When it comes to explaining why Waccamaw lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tyrese Haynes. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points along with seven rebounds. The match was Haynes' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Behney, who scored eight points.
Even though they lost, Waccamaw were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Andrews only posted seven assists.
Andrews is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. As for Waccamaw, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-10.
