The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They fell just short of Wasatch by a score of 61-59. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Friday (56), Maple Mountain still had to take the loss.
Several Golden Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Easton Merrell, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Bennett Averett was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds.
Maple Mountain has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Wasatch, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-8.
Maple Mountain will look to defend their home court on Friday against Salem Hills at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Salem Hills' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups. As for Wasatch, they will head out on the road to face off against Springville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Springville is ranked 48th, while Wasatch is ranked 56th).
