The South Point Red Raiders pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 63-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Crest. While losing is never fun, South Point can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Crest is ranked 34th).
South Point's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Graham Williams, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Petty, who scored 11 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Crest to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jabari Thurman, who scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thurman has scored all season. Another player making a difference was D'various Surratt, who scored 14 points.
This is the second loss in a row for South Point and nudges their season record down to 7-7. As for Crest, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Point will take on Kings Mountain at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Kings Mountain has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Crest, they will be playing at home against North Gaston at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Gaston is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
