The Chiawana Riverhawks fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Kennewick Lions on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 67-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the defeat, Chiawana had strong showings from Kaia Foster, who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds, and Malia Ruud, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 22 rebounds. The game was Ruud's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Medelez, who scored nine points.
This is the second loss in a row for Chiawana and nudges their season record down to 5-2. As for Kennewick, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.
Chiawana will be home for the holidays to greet Walla Walla at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. Walla Walla is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 62 points per game. As for Kennewick, they will head out on the road to face off against Southridge at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. Southridge will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Kennewick is ranked 29th).
