The Sparta Spartans will be playing at home against the Reedsburg Beavers at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Sparta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
Sparta came into Tuesday's game having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Viroqua by a score of 76-68. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Gavin Rhead continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 17 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Geier, who scored 17 points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, Reedsburg's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight defeat. They took a serious blow against Stoughton, falling 81-41. While losing is never fun, Reedsburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 377th, while the Vikings are ranked 11th).
Sparta's win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-13. As for Reedsburg, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season.
Sparta came up short against the Beavers when the teams last played back in December of 2017, falling 61-50. Can Sparta avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
