It was a good run, but Pleasanton unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 61-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Axtell Wildcats. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 48-39.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brennan Lindner, who posted 14 points. Another player making a difference was Haden Smith, who put up 12 points.
Axtell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brandt Modlin, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 17 rebounds. Axtell is 9-4 when Modlin posts ten or more boards, but 2-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Bergstrom, who went 8-for-15 on his way to 21 points.
Pleasanton's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-12. As for Axtell, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-13.
Pleasanton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Axtell, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Wildcats face off against the Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Axtell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season.
