Bourgade Catholic is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Benjamin Franklin on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Bourgade Catholic lost 52-27 to Benjamin Franklin. The Golden Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-9.
Bourgade Catholic's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Vanessa Arismendez, who posted nine points, and Nizhoni Rainbolt, who put up nine points.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Payson's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 49-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Snowflake. While the Longhorns didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Lobos 27-19 in the first quarter.
Bourgade Catholic will need focus on slowing down Kyndall Hatch, one of several Payson players who made an impact when they last played. She had eight points and nine boards. Clara Whaley was another key player, going 6 of 14 on her way to 16 points.
Even though they lost, Payson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 15 consecutive games.
Payson's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-5. As for Bourgade Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-14.
