La Serna (Whittier, Calif.) kept up a steady attack all game long to beat
Santa Fe (Santa Fe Springs, Calif.), 31-3, on Saturday.
The Lancers were up 24-0 at the half after taking the lead on a field goal by
Tavis Guerra in the first quarter.
La Serna expanded its lead to 28 points entering the fourth quarter. LS scored once in the quarter on a touchdown run by
Luke Gonzales.
Eddie Mendez made a difference for the Chiefs. The senior kicked one field goal.
The Whittier school's most effective player was
Frankie Palmer. The junior quarterback threw two touchdowns. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
The Lancers had given up an average of 17.6 points prior to the contest. The three points that Santa Fe ended with were well below its average of 14.0 coming into the game.
La Serna got revenge for last year's 23-8 loss to SF with the victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Santa Fe, which notched a 31-21 victory over California in its previous outing. The loss snapped the Santa Fe Springs school's 3-game winning streak. With the win LS extended its winning streak to four games.
La Serna (8-1) will play a Del Rio game against California next week, while Santa Fe (5-4) will take on Pioneer also in a Del Rio game.
