Blue Ridge has gone 9-1 against Greer recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Fighting Tigers will face off against the Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. Blue Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Pickens hit Blue Ridge with a four-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Fighting Tigers took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Flame.
Kilee Grant spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered eight runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hannah Durham was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. Brynlee Bayne was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Greer fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Pickens on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Flame by a score of 4-3. The Yellow Jackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Greer also let their pitcher toss all 7.2 innings and she was also dialed-in: Morgan Arterburn gave up three earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Greer saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Merritt, who went 3-for-4 with one run. Bailey Zayas also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Greer's loss dropped their record down to 2-11-2. As for Blue Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.
Greer's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Blue Ridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .386. It's a different story for Greer, though, as they've only averaged .239. Will they be able to contain Blue Ridge's hitters?
Blue Ridge skirted past Greer 3-1 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fighting Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
