The Westwood Panthers will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Groesbeck Goats at 7:30 p.m. Westwood knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 contests -- so hopefully the Goats like a good challenge.
Last Tuesday, everything came up roses for Westwood on the road against the Elks as the squad secured a 79-44 victory. Given Westwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while the Elks are ranked 1327th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westwood found their leader in underclassman Kavian Bryant, who scored 35 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Bryant has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last ten times he's played. Chris Carter was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six steals and five assists.
Meanwhile, Groesbeck unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 66-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Buffalo. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Westwood is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. As for Groesbeck, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-18.
Everything came up roses for Westwood against the Goats when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 86-19 win. Does Westwood have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Goats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
