The Refugio Bobcats will take on the Ganado Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Refugio comes in on three and Ganado on nine.
Refugio barely beat Port Aransas the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bobcats put the hurt on the Marlins with a sharp 14-3 win on Thursday. Considering the Bobcats have won eight matches by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Refugio got a great performance from Cymber Cancino as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over 4.2 innings pitched.
At the plate, Cedie Wills was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jazmyn Howard, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Refugio kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Ganado earned a 7-4 victory over Tidehaven on Tuesday.
Saylor Bures looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Rhylee Green was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and one stolen base. Kalyn Benavides was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Ganado's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-5-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Refugio, their record now sits at 13-11.
Refugio might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Ganado when the teams last played back in March of 2016. Can the Bobcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
