Knox has gone a perfect 6-0 against Westville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Redskins will face off against the Blackhawks at 4:45 p.m. Knox is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Knox turned things around against Rochester on Friday. They came out on top against the Zebras by a score of 6-3.
Bethany Barnes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addison Sponaugle, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheryl Barnes, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Westville waltzed into their game on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Wolves as they made off with a 21-5 victory. Considering the Blackhawks have won three matchups by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Miranda Sparks and Kierstin Vargas made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Sparks tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Vargas tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Sparks went a perfect 5-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Vargas went a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Vargas has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Kiersten Vaughan was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Lily Green also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Westville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .707. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Westville pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Knox, their record now sits at 6-9.
Both Knox and Westville just can't seem to miss. The Redskins have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Westville struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Knox took their win against Westville when the teams last played back in April of 2019 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Redskins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blackhawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
