It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Wellesley Raiders can now relate to. Their rough 42-21 loss to Catholic Memorial on Friday might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Wellesley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts football rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Catholic Memorial is ranked fourth).
Wellesley's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Robby Broggi, who picked up 171 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Bobby Shanahan, who threw for 239 yards and a touchdown.
Wellesley's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Catholic Memorial, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2.
Wellesley will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Needham at 10:00 a.m. on November 23rd. As for Catholic Memorial, they will square off against Marshfield at TBD on Friday. Marshfield is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
