New Trier is 6-1 against Buffalo Grove since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. New Trier will welcome Buffalo Grove at 4:45 p.m. New Trier is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
New Trier will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Thurston on Thursday. New Trier put the hurt on Thurston with a sharp 13-2 win. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Trevians this season.
Henrik Conniff looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Trey Meyers was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Jake Bentivenga was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.
Meanwhile, Buffalo Grove fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Geneva on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 6-5.
Cole Diaz was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Dudek, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Buffalo Grove's loss dropped their record down to 1-3-1. As for New Trier, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. New Trier has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Buffalo Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went New Trier's way against Buffalo Grove when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as New Trier made off with a 12-1 win. Will New Trier repeat their success, or does Buffalo Grove has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
