Basketball Recap: Omari Russell Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Frostproof

Fort Meade won the last time they faced Frostproof and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Fort Meade Miners put the hurt on the Frostproof Bulldogs with a sharp 58-37 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Miners.

Fort Meade's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Omari Russell, who posted 16 points in addition to six rebounds and six blocks. Russell has been hot, having also posted three or more steals the last five times he's played. Gabe Solomon was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

Fort Meade smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests.

Frostproof's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zavier Powell, who earned six points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mekhi Guillaume, who put up 11 points.

Fort Meade has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. As for Frostproof, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-8.

Fort Meade has already played their next game, a 68-43 win against DeSoto County on the 30th. As for Frostproof, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-64 defeat against Lincoln Park Academy on the 31st.
