The Saint Mary's Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Maria Carrillo Pumas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Saturday, Saint Mary's took their game at home with ease, bagging a 57-6 victory over Richmond. Given Saint Mary's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while Richmond is ranked 1003rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Saint Mary's can attribute much of their success to Elijah Hines, who rushed for 71 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Marcus-jasiri Hughes also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Saint Mary's defense and their four sacks. Richmond's QB won't forget Luke Swanson anytime soon given Swanson sacked him four times.
Meanwhile, Maria Carrillo never let their opponents score on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Healdsburg 35-0 on the road. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Maria Carrillo.
Their wins bumped Saint Mary's to 5-3 and Maria Carrillo to 4-4.
Saint Mary's beat Maria Carrillo 19-7 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Will Saint Mary's repeat their success, or does Maria Carrillo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
