Softball Recap: Bishop Montgomery Sets Scoring Season-High Against Serra

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bishop Montgomery). They put the hurt on the Serra Cavaliers with a sharp 23-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Knights have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Macey Kim was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Brooke Patterson looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February.

Back at the plate, Grace Garciaparra was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Solheim, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Bishop Montgomery hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive games.

Bishop Montgomery's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Serra, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Looking ahead, Bishop Montgomery will square off against Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Serra, they have already played their next match, a 26-6 loss against Bishop Conaty-Loretto on the 10th.
