Sierra and Elizabeth are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Sierra Stallions will head out on the road to square off against the Elizabeth Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sierra is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
Last Tuesday, it was a hard-fought game, but Sierra had to settle for a 56-54 loss against Sand Creek.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight defeat. They took a 61-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of The Classical Academy. While losing is never fun, Elizabeth can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 266th, while The Classical Academy is ranked 129th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Cooper Connelley, who scored 13 points along with four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Dunn, who scored 15 points.
Even though they lost, Elizabeth were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. This was only their 12th loss (out of 15 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Sierra's defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Elizabeth, their loss dropped their record down to 3-16.
Sierra strolled past Elizabeth in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 78-62. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Elizabeth's Ethan Stone, who scored 18 points along with five steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Sierra still be able to contain Stone? There's only one way to find out.
