The Sebastian River Sharks will square off against the Key West Conchs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sebastian River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Sebastian River is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Rockledge just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 10-5 to the Raiders.
Sebastian River saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abigail Bowie-Whitsett, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Another was Rily Biggers, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Key West made sure to put some runs up on the board against Lourdes Academy on Wednesday. Key West was the clear victor by a 14-1 margin over Lourdes Academy. The result was nothing new for the Conchs, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Brianna Brenner made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Aaliyah Mcleod was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Vera Rodger was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Key West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Key West is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. Sebastian River's loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
Sebastian River's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. Sebastian River has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Key West, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Sebastian River continue to outrun the ball?
