The Mitchell Bluejackets will venture away from home to face off against the Perry Central Commodores at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mitchell will be strutting in after a victory while Perry Central will be coming in after a defeat.
Mitchell was handed a three-set loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They won by a set and slipped past Owen Valley 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bluejackets have posted since September 13th.
Mitchell took Owen Valley into a fifth set where they got it done with a eight-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-18, 16-25, 25-23, 15-7.
Among those leading the charge was Paisley Modglin, who had 14 digs and two aces.
Meanwhile, Perry Central suffered their biggest defeat since September 4th on Thursday. They lost 3-0 to Heritage Hills. The Commodores haven't had much luck with the Patriots recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
While Perry Central had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 20 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-23, 25-22.
Mitchell's victory bumped their record up to 7-17. As for Perry Central, their loss dropped their record down to 20-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Mitchell has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.7 aces per game. However, it's not like Perry Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
