Newark Memorial has gone 9-1 against American recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Newark Memorial will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Newark Memorial and James Logan meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Colts 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted against the Colts since May 4, 2022.
The team relied heavily on Andrea Tall, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Mahlyah Sao, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask American). They put the hurt on Mission San Jose with a sharp 16-6 win on Thursday. The Eagles not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since February 27, 2024 (when they won 15-5).
Mya Anderson was incredible, going 1-for-3 with five stolen bases and three runs. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dhwani Badala, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Newark Memorial pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for American, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-13.
American's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Newark Memorial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for American, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Newark Memorial keep running through batters, or will the Eagles buck the trend?
Newark Memorial took their win against American when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 24-3 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
