Mallory Pickering put in work no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up four earned (and six unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, Courtney Krosse made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Clearview came into Monday's contest having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Oberlin on Monday as they made off with a 31-18 victory. The Clippers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like Wellington, Clearview also got a great game from a two-way player: Alivia Ocasio. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Ocasio was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and three RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Clearview got a massive performance out of Leyla Young, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Young a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Angela Trent, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with five RBI and three runs.
Wellington's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Clearview, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-9.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wellington has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Clearview struggles in that department as they've averaged .438. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wellington took their victory against Clearview in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 20-4 score. Will the Dukes repeat their success, or do the Clippers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
