The Eastern Mennonite Flames were the 64-58 winner over the Potomac Falls Panthers when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Eastern Mennonite had to suffer through a rough 72-43 loss at the hands of Potomac Falls. While losing is never fun, Eastern Mennonite can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Potomac Falls is ranked 11th).
Eastern Mennonite's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drew Hatter, who scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds. Another player making a difference was William Gardner, who scored 9 points.
Eastern Mennonite struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Potomac Falls pulled down 18.
Among those leading the charge was David Marshall, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. The match was his third in a row with at least ten points. Johnny Opiola was another key contributor, scoring 7 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
Eastern Mennonite's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Potomac Falls, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Eastern Mennonite won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Monticello at 5:30 p.m. on December 2nd. Potomac Falls is on the road again on Saturday and play against Broadway at 7:15 p.m. on December 2nd.
