The Victory Christian Academy Storm pushed their score all the way to 31 last Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 41-31 to John Carroll Catholic.
Several Storm players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kooper Jones, who picked up 247 receiving yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Benton, who threw for 300 yards and four touchdowns.
Leading John Carroll Catholic to victory were Jaden Mackey and Jaydien Pittman. Mackey gained 130 total yards and two touchdowns, while Pittman rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Pittman was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards.
Another reason for the win was John Carroll Catholic's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Tyvan Eckles and his two sacks.
Victory Christian Academy's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 5-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-0 Fort Meade and 7-2 Zephyrhills Christian Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.3% over those games). As for John Carroll Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 3-7 record this season.
Victory Christian Academy will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Episcopal School of Jacksonville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Episcopal School of Jacksonville is ranked 282nd, while Victory Christian Academy is ranked 261st). John Carroll Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
