The Burges Mustangs entered their tilt with the El Paso Tigers with nine consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with ten. Burges really took it to El Paso for the full four quarters, racking up a 61-26 win on the road. Burges has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 21 points or more this season.
Burges' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordyn Hernandez led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. Hernandez is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameryn Morales, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Despite the loss, El Paso still got an impressive performance from Amaris Ambriz, who scored 17 points along with four steals. Ambriz hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Natalia Thomas was another key contributor, scoring four points along with ten rebounds and four blocks.
Burges is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. As for El Paso, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-6.
Burges will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Andress at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Andress will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 800th, while Burges is ranked 144th). As for El Paso, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Chapin at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Chapin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
