Tesoro has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on The San Clemente Tritons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Tesoro focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Friday.
Tesoro fell victim to Mission Viejo's stalwart defense and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Diablos 36-0. Having soared to a lofty 37 points in the game before, Tesoro couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, San Clemente had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 35-18 victory over Capistrano Valley. Given San Clemente's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Capistrano Valley is ranked 84th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
San Clemente got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Aiden Rubin out in front who rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries. Rubin was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards. Max (fernando) gonzales got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Mission Viejo's win bumped their season record to 6-3 while Tesoro's loss dropped theirs to 5-4.
Tesoro lost to San Clemente on the road by a decisive 31-14 margin in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Tesoro avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
