The Hanover Central Wildcats will face off against the Lake Central Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lake Central will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Hanover Central extended their winning streak to three on Saturday. The Wildcats blew past Glenn 13-2.
Sienna Stilley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Adeline McMahon, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Hanover Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Lake Central won against Chesterton on Tuesday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. Lake Central's pitchers stepped up to hand Portage a 12-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for Lake Central.
Maddie Such looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jessy Del Toro was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tegan Tripp, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Lake Central's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Hanover Central, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Hanover Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lake Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
