Softball Recap: Northview Sets Scoring Season-High Against Excel

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northview). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Excel Panthers a 19-0 shutout on Saturday. The Chiefs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.

Jamison Gilman made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Stuckey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Daviona Randolph, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Northview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .583. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Northview pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Excel, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season.

Northview has already played their next contest, a 6-4 win against T.R. Miller on the 22nd. As for Excel, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Hillcrest at 4:00 p.m. on April 1.
