The Apex Cougars were the 60-41 winner over the Green Hope Falcons when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Apex lost to Green Hope at home by a decisive 60-46 margin on Friday. Apex has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why Apex lost, one person who can't be blamed is Destiny Richardson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Richardson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Hannah Jerkins, who scored four points along with four steals.
Even though they lost, Apex smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Green Hope only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Green Hope was led to victory by Abigail Brown and Chloe Lee. Brown scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Lee went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 19 points and 2 assists. That's the first time this season that Lee scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Uma Surkund, who scored nine points.
Apex has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for Green Hope, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Apex will take on Holly Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Holly Springs has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8. Green Hope will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Cary at 4:30 p.m. on January 23rd.
