2A Catawba Valley recap Oct. 30, 2012
Jake McRee and Justus Woods provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Draughn. The connection was good for 63 yards, the longest such play in 2A Catawba Valley this season.
Newton-Conover extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating West Caldwell, 56-6. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Marquis Pope was the most productive running back in the league this week. In six carries, he ran for 214 yards as Newton-Conover beat East Burke. Teammate Nick Baker added to the ground attack by rushing for 36 yards.
McRee put up the best numbers through the air as Maiden defeated the Wildcats. He finished with a total of 10 completions for 154 yards and two touchdowns. McRee's favorite target this week was Woods, who caught two passes for 75 yards.
Fisher was the best wideout in 2A Catawba Valley this week as the Vikings beat the Cavaliers. Fisher racked up eight receptions for 131 yards. Jaylon Stockton helped South Iredell's passing attack out by catching two balls for 13 yards.
On the ground, Brint Russell's team's Kevin Cline has rushed for 702 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Ricky Taylor. The Maiden star has 54 catches for 700 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bandys takes on East Burke. The Trojans are in fourth place, while Jim Ruark's team is in seventh place.
The Red Devils led the league in scoring this week after putting up 56 points on the Warriors. Pope caught two passes for 23 yards in the win.
