The Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears will face off against the Eagle Rock Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Port of Los Angeles comes in on 14 and Eagle Rock on six.
Port of Los Angeles is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Verdugo Hills, sneaking past 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Polar Bears have posted since April 25th.
Alyssa Setka spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Port of Los Angeles saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rochelle Watkins, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Eagle Rock got themselves on the board against Chavez on Friday, but Chavez never followed suit. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Chavez.
The result came thanks to Marcella Terrazas's shutout, as she gave up just three hits.
At the plate, Melissa Terrazas was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Eagle Rock's win bumped their record up to 18-6. As for Port of Los Angeles, their victory bumped their record up to 17-4.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Port of Los Angeles hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .477. However, it's not like Eagle Rock struggles in that department as they've averaged .373. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Port of Los Angeles was able to grind out a solid win over Eagle Rock when the teams last played back in May of 2017, winning 5-0. Will the Polar Bears repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
