Fairmont Senior is 2-8 against Frankfort since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Polar Bears will challenge the Falcons at 12:30 p.m. Fairmont Senior is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Fairmont Senior narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Brooke 3-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Polar Bears.
Logan Canfield spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Matt Masters was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Frankfort faced Bridgeport in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Falcons came out on top against the Indians by a score of 10-6. The high-scoring effort was just what the Falcons needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Frankfort also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Jaxon Hare gave up six earned runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Frankfort got a big performance out of Lanson Orndorf, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Orndorf has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Blake Jacobs, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Frankfort hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least one batters in three consecutive matches.
Frankfort pushed their record up to 22-8 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Fairmont Senior, their record now sits at 24-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fairmont Senior has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Frankfort struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
