The Albany Academy for Boys Cadets will welcome the Troy Flying Horses at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Albany Academy for Boys will be strutting in after a win while Troy will be coming in after a defeat.
Albany Academy for Boys headed into their last contest having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Lansingburgh let them put that streak behind them. The Cadets came out on top against the Knights by a score of 10-7 on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Cadets in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won eight in a row.
Albany Academy for Boys got a massive performance out of Evan Derrick, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles Derrick has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Willie Kimbler, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Albany Academy for Boys kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Troy was a bit more limited in their matchup on Wednesday. They came up short against Ichabod Crane, falling 7-1.
Troy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kayne Behan, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Albany Academy for Boys' win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Troy, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Albany Academy for Boys has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Troy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Albany Academy for Boys couldn't quite finish off Troy in their previous matchup back in May of 2022 and fell 2-0. Can the Cadets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
